Armstrong Garden Centers are doing more than just discussing sustainability — they are making it a reality with the launch of a nursery-container recycling program at all 33 of their California locations.
Garden center staff is encouraging customers to return used nursery flats and containers to their local Armstrong Garden Centers. The nursery-container recycling program launched last month but will be heavily promoted for America Recycles Day on Saturday, Nov. 15: Customers who return containers to their Armstrong locations that day will receive 10 percent off their purchases.
Through this recycling program, Armstrong associates collect the containers, make sure they are free of debris and sort them by size, and Armstrong Growers — Armstrong Garden Centers’ wholesale division — picks up the sorted containers and takes them to a central location for recycling.
Recycling is just one way Armstrong Garden Centers are demonstrating their commitment to sustainability. They use biodegradable shopping bags and offer trunk liners made from ECM MasterBatch pellets, both of which fully biodegrade in nine months to five years when disposed of properly. They also offer a full line of organically grown vegetables and herbs in biodegradable pots and educate consumers about water conversation, a must in California and an increasing necessity across the United States.
