In a strategic move to attract more Floridians to enjoy gardening, the Florida Nursery, Growers & Landscape Association (FNGLA) participated in the Southern Women’s Show in Orlando, Oct. 11-14. Partnering with the consumer experts at the University of Florida, FNGLA paired the garden-interested consumers with gardening experts at the four-day event. Container gardening talks were open for all interested attendees two of the four show days, and the University of Florida/IFAS Publications were on-hand Thursday and Friday of the show selling consumer-interest gardening books and items.
“With women making the vast majority of household purchasing decisions, the Southern Women’s Show is a great match with our goal of promoting gardening and the industry’s products directly to consumers,” says Jennifer Nellis, FNGLA’s director of public relations.
With at least one expert per day, the following were on-hand to offer their expertise, answer gardening questions and simply to promote the industry: Ed Thralls, Orange County Extensions’s Residential Horticulture & Master Gardener program coordinator; Liz Felter, Orange Country Extension’s Environmental Horticulture & FNGLA Marketing Committee member; Kim Taylor, Center for Landscape Conservation & Ecology at the University of Florida; and Jennifer Welshans, Osceola County Extension Environmental Horticulture.
