  • Post-Christmas Sales Attract Shoppers

    January 8, 2008

While some consumers prefer the spirit of the pre-holiday rush, many look forward to irresistible post-Christmas sales. Many retailers mark down prices by as much as 75 percent, according to The Frederick News-Post.

“We'll keep the 75-percent discount until they sell out, and Christmas items sell out every year,” Ron Williams, store manager at the Home Depot on McCain Drive in Frederick, tells the News-Post. Many customers want to take advantage of markdowns as well as use gift cards, he says.

Williams says there is always a spike in sales of storage shelving and tubs after Christmas. “Shoppers get gifts and don't have room to store them or need to reorganize their closets,” he tells the News-Post.

Debbie Gilmartin, an administrator for Frederick County Public Schools, and Peggy Ballew, an executive secretary, say they usually look for bargains after Christmas, reported the News-Post. “I can get more for the dollar than before Christmas,” Ballew says.

Some holiday shoppers enjoy shopping right before Christmas, such as Vickie Grinder, a restaurant general manager. According to the News-Post, she feels buying after Christmas takes the fun out of shopping. “I go out a week before Christmas and do all the shopping in one day,” she says. “The crowds and parking don't bother me.”
