Scottish tycoon Sir Tom Hunter added another branch to his garden center acquisitions by recently completing the £15 million Somerset-based Sanders Garden World transaction.
Sanders Garden World is based near Highbridge and will be added to the Wyevale garden centre chain that Hunter bought last year through his West Coast capital investment firm for £445.1 million. Hunter’s partners in the deal include bank HBOs, Icelandic investor Baugur and the Prestbury property investment vehicle. Two further acquisitions are in the pipeline, according to a spokesman, who also stated that Sanders Garden World will increase Wyvale’s presence in the South West and will add to the group’s land bank and development opportunities.
Sanders Garden World is the largest purpose-built garden center, caters to shoppers with restaurants and cafes, and has an increasing on-line sales presence.
Hunter also owns a stake of more than 29 percent in the Midlothina-based garden center chain Dobbies.
