ANLA Staff Member Releases First Cookbook

Jonathan Bardzik, long-time member of the horticulture industry and ANLA staff, has released his first cookbook, Simple Summer: A Recipe for Cooking and Entertaining with Ease.

Jonathan Bardzik, long-time member of the horticulture industry and ANLA staff, has released his first cookbook, Simple Summer: A Recipe for Cooking and Entertaining with Ease. The book is a collection of 40 recipes, stories, and music and drink recommendations, chosen from more than 300 recipes that Jonathan has created over three seasons for his weekly, live cooking demonstrations at Washington, DC’s historic Eastern Market. His book celebrates quick and simple preparations capturing the bright flavors of garden-fresh produce.

Each recipe in Simple Summer is illustrated with original photography and tips for preparing the dishes. “I learned from my weekly cooking demonstrations that people want to know what the finished dish will look like before buying the ingredients and spending time cooking. Many of the tips come from questions asked by my audience,” says Jonathan.

More than just a cookbook, Simple Summer paints a picture of easy summer living, including the plants and flowers that make it beautiful. The book includes photography contributed by Garry Grueber of Cultivaris and Angela Treadwell-Palmer of Plants Nouveau. “One of the great joys of summer is that flower-filled gardens and containers take care of the decorating. Garden-fresh produce makes cooking easy so you can spend more time relaxing with family and friends,” Jonathan says. Simple Summer is available for purchase on Jonathan’s website, www.jonathanbardzik.com, where you can find his blog containing more than 135 recipes and stories.
