BFG Supply Operates Former Commerce Facility; Hires Commerce Employees
BFG Supply Co. recently announced that it will expand its footprint with an investment in a former Commerce facility located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Operations will begin immediately at the over 200,000 sq. ft. warehouse with the 50 Commerce employees BFG recently added to support this effort.
Rob Glockner, President and CEO of BFG Supply, commented on the transaction, “Commerce is a company full of great people that fell on hard times. As Commerce phases out of the Lawn and Garden marketplace, their exit has created a huge void and left a substantial number of customers concerned about having product for the spring. The entire Lawn & Garden industry changed overnight and is now facing significant challenges as it moves into the busy season. Our number one priority is to minimize the disruptions for our customers, so when presented with the opportunity to add the Grand Rapids facility to our existing network of 12 distribution centers, we jumped on it.”
Glockner went on, “In addition to the facility, we’ve also added a significant amount of inventory and hired over 50 former commerce employees in the last few weeks. Our philosophy is to draft great athletes and find a place on our team for them. We’ve hired key personnel in customer service, purchasing, operations and marketing to help support the 19 new sales professionals BFG brought onboard. The reputation and experience of the individuals hired will only complement our operating practices as we expand our footprint in the industry. When you combine the facility, a great new team of people and new products lines like Emerald Park Premium Grass Seed, BFG Supply has become one of the most significant Lawn & Garden distributors in the country! While we do expect challenges associated with the disruption created by Commerce, our resources and innovative team are committed to resolving all obstacles encountered.”
When asked about the rate of growth BFG Supply has seen in the last 18-months, Glockner commented, “We have a business model that allows us to expand quickly and efficiently when the opportunity arises.
