For the BirdsBy Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

Some people are just plain hard to shop for. Whether they’re the type of people that go out and buy something the minute they want it or the type that seriously owns everything, it’s good to have some go-to gifts.

For my dad, slap a sports logo on anything (#GoPackGo). For my brother, pick up yet another sleeve of golf balls. For my grandma, head to the birding department. I’ve gotten her a dozen bird watching books over the years. I’ve wrapped up birdseed with a gift card to the local garden center. I’ve turned her photo of a cardinal into an iPhone case.

From birdhouses to birdbaths, feeders to seed, there are so many options. But it’s important to keep things fresh.

What changes have you made to your birding department recently? Have you noticed a new demographic of bird enthusiasts? I’d love to talk to you about all things birding for an upcoming issue of L&GR. Email me at [email protected].

Next Stop: NextLevel

Also, use that email to let me know if you’re headed to Ft. Lauderdale next week for AmericanHort’s NextLevel. Are you fortunate enough to escape the cold (or just get away for a few days)? I’d love to grab a cup of coffee and hear what’s in store for you this spring.

One Final Chance

Great news: The deadline has been extended for sister publication GPN’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2015. You have until this Friday, Jan. 30, to nominate a young man or woman, guy or gal, who is making waves in the horticulture industry. I know there are some creative, compassionate and innovative leaders on the retail side, so don’t delay … nominate here today!

Cheers,

Abby
