Exciting times around here!
Last week, while I was hanging out on Navy Pier for the Independent Garden Center Show, I got some great news.
First? Associate Editor Jasmina Radjevic got clearance for a huge last-minute travel opportunity to Costa Rica. In early September, she’ll be touring the growing facilities of FlorExpo with McGregor Plant Sales‘ Chris Berg and will share what she finds in Central America in upcoming issues of Lawn & Garden Retailer, GPN and Big Grower magazines. Seeing the results of the breeding and growing process at the California Spring Trials is one thing, but Jasmina’s unfettered access to FlorExpo’s facility in Costa Rica is huge, and we can’t wait to give you a peek at the action when she returns.
And then there’s me! On that same day, I got the word that I’ll be heading to England next May and you’re coming with me. The story below about Garden Getaway Tours is the first of many items you’ll see from me about this turnkey travel program for independent garden centers and their customers – Jeanine Standard and Vanessa Dinning approached me during OFA Short Course and asked me to go on one of the tours next year and blog about the company, program, planning and the trip itself. Story ideas for life, plus a look at gardens that the public usually doesn’t even get to see? How could I say no?
