Stephen’s Landscaping, also known as Stephen’s Garden Center, in Long Branch, N.J., is accused of charging “exorbitant prices” for generators before and after Superstorm Sandy. That claim is according to a lawsuit by N.J. Acting Attorney General John Hoffman.

The business allegedly sold 133 generators to consumers at markups between 82 and 155 percent, resulting in more than $175,000 in retail sales for the generators. Some of these generators might have been recalled due to potential fire hazards before the sale.

The business is also under investigation for selling gasoline without being a licensed motor fuel retailer.

The lawsuit alleges the company violated N.J.’s Hazardous Products Regulations, Motor Fuel Tax Act and Consumer Fraud Act.
