Phoenix’s Long-Standing Baker Nursery to Close at Year EndSource: RyanVanVelzer, The Republic

Baker Nursery in Phoenix will close for good on December 31, 2014, after 46 years of service.

According to a letter on the homepage of its website, Baker Nursery in Phoenix will close for good on December 31, 2014, after 46 years of service.

Founder Jim Baker purchased the bankrupt nursery in 1968 and carved a niche business by offering a large selection of exotic plants from Australia, South Africa and Mexico, reports Ryan Van Velzer, The Republic.

“In 2006, Baker signed the business over to three of his six daughters – Mary Pearson, Barbara Stanley and Bonnie Higgins … Stanley declined to comment, saying only that [the closing is] a private matter,” notes Van Velzer.
