Terrain Garden Center Spares Historic HomeSource: Westport News

Terrain garden center in Westport, Conn., plans to retain a historic house on its property after public outcry.

Terrain garden center in Westport, Conn., plans to retain a historic house on its property after public outcry, according to Cameron Martin’s article in the Westport News. The new plans come one month after Terrain’s original idea to demolish the house to create more parking spaces for the store and on-site restaurant received public backlash.

The Historic District Commission will review Terrain’s application, and Terrain’s parent company, Urban Outfitters, hopes the Planning and Zoning Commission will waive the requirement of adding three additional parking spaces, since the company does not plan to use the house.

Terrain signed a lease for the Post Road East property in 2011, and property co-owner Tom Curran tells Martin that he was assured Terrain would spare the wood-frame house, built around 1900.
