Spring-spirationBy Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

Yesterday, a friend of mine sent me a message with this link and the words, “My new home.” Having no clue what she was talking about, I haphazardly clicked on the link, which took me to a Cherry Blossom Cam. I quickly put two and two together, congratulated her on her new teaching position in Washington, D.C., and went right back to the camera.

EarthCam and the National Park Service have teamed up to provide 24-hour coverage from around the city of the famous cherry blossom trees, predicted to reach peak bloom any day now – between April 11 and 14.

If this doesn’t say spring, I don’t know what does. More than 1.5 million people visit the capital during the two-week National Cherry Blossom Festival. It’s a destination, a kick off to the season and a photographer’s dream.

Let’s take this to a smaller scale … what is the kick off to the season at your garden center? What makes it a destination for shoppers, and what makes them take out their camera to snap some photos?

Tell me about it at [email protected]. And don’t forget to pause for a couple seconds to take some photos of those displays that shine this year.

These photos could earn you the title of 2015 Merchandiser of the Year and more than $3,000 in prizes from our sponsors Dramm and Braun Horticulture.

Find out all the details here.
