Toellner Family Buys Blue Handworks
Gift Essentials, owned by the Toellner family in Mexico, Missouri, has purchased Blue Handworks, a gift company founded by Doug Davis and Laura Dowling in 1984. The Toellner family continues to expand beyond its large base of wild bird and backyard nature products with Blue Handworks and a recently launched handcrafted stained glass gift line.
Davis says that Gold Crest Distributing, also owned by the Toellner family, was Blue Handworks largest customer, so it made sense to reach out to them once they decided to retire.
“We are extremely pleased that Doug and Laura will continue to work with us in product design and quality control,” says Mel Toellner, president of Gold Crest Distributing.
“Our immediate plans are to not only continue all current designs, but also to bring back some Top Selling Bird Feeders and Whirligigs sold by Blue Handworks in the past as well as create some new items for our expanding Wine Gift Distributing division which we launched early in 2014.”
